One of the American Legion’s mission points is to promote Americanism and what is more American than hot dogs, baseball and a cold Pepsi?

The American Legion, Post 411 was first chartered in 1938 and for decades was extremely active in the Conroe community. Like most American youth I can remember playing in the American Legion Little League and attending the 4th of July picnic. Sadly, the last 20 years this post fell to the wayside and existed in name only. Three years ago the post was re-vitalized under the leadership of our current Commander, Steven Merrel. We are back and we are here to make a difference not only in our member veteran’s lives but in our community as a whole. The only problem is no one knows we exist anymore. In order to provide the community outreach the American Legion is known for we need to promote ourselves and raise funds to buy or lease a hall where we can provide this community outreach and other services for our veterans.

The Great Conroe Hot Dog Give-A-Way is our first venture into raising the public’s awareness that the American Legion is here to help our local veterans and support the community. With this event the American Legion, Post 411, along with the generous help of our corporate sponsors is planning to give a hot dog and cold drink to everyone in Conroe on May 30, 2015. OK, yes that is a bit ambitious, reality is we are planning for about 500 people. But the attention this event will draw will let Conroe know they have an American Legion and we are here to support our local veterans and provide those service that the American Legion is known for.

About The Event

We have reserved the Grand Pavilion at Carl Barton, Jr. Park for May 30, 2015 from Noon till 4:00PM and have arranged for security to be provided by the Conroe Police Department. The BBQ pits fire up at 11:45AM with the first hot dogs to be fresh from the grill at noon. We also have live music from local singer/song-writer, Cheyenne Ayla James who will perform a wide selection of music during the event. The Conroe Fire Department will be there providing demos and information as will our corporate sponsors; The Military Veteran Peer Network, Praxair and your local Korgers and Pepsi. We will also have a raffle for a chance to win 100 Texas Scratch-offs, Legionaries available to answer your question and help you become a member, door prizes and more.

The kids playground is directly adjacent to the pavilion. So come out on May 30th and join your American Legion for a free hot dog and drink! Bring your picnic blankets!

This event could not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors:
